Southwest CPR offers both instructor training and instructor affiliation services for both independent and organizational trainers. Instructors may receive either Heartsaver instructor certification or BLS instructor certification. BLS instructors may also teach Heartsaver courses.
Our instructor training program consists of several distinct components:
1. Training Center Alignment
You must be currently American Heart Association BLS- or Heartsaver-certified to qualify as an instructor. You will need to present a valid and current AHA course completion card and complete an instructor application and contract.
2. AHA Instructor Essentials Course
This online training from American Heart Association must be completed prior to attending the instructor course. We will send you a training link when you register for the instructor training. You must complete this online training prior to attending the instructor course.
You must purchase and receive your instructor manual prior to taking the Instructor Essentials course. This manual is purchased from AHA. We will send you a link to purchase this manual after enrolling for the instructor course. Manuals vary in price, depending on the course selected.
3. Southwest CPR Instructor Course
This one-day class includes expectations, behaviors, learning styles, presentation skills, and skills practice and testing.
4. Monitored instruction
Your teaching skills will be monitored during your first class, and feedback provided regarding professionalism, presentation skills, effectiveness, and accuracy.
Once you have successfully completed the all four components of the course, you may create and teach classes as you wish. Price does not include training equipment, training supplies, or any AHA instructor manuals.

Southwest CPR reserves the right to cancel any scheduled training class with 48 hours notification. Students enrolled in a class canceled by Southwest CPR may, at their option, either enroll into another class or receive a full refund.
No refunds for any other reasons. Students may reschedule with 24 hours notice.
